Tim Burton’s – 9 – official teaser trailer released

Shane Acker’s short film from 2005 is now being adapted into a feature length film produced by filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov.

Plot shamelessly copied from Wikipedia:
9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened. A group of sapient rag dolls, living a post-apocalyptic existence find one of their own, 9 (Elijah Wood), who displays leadership qualities that may help them to survive.

The conflicted, but resilient group includes 1 (Christopher Plummer), a domineering war veteran; 2 (Martin Landau), an aged inventor; 5 (John C. Reilly), a stalwart mechanic; 6 (Crispin Glover), a visionary and artist; and 7 (Jennifer Connelly), a brave warrior. The trailer also depicts 3 and 4 as identical, hooded rag dolls, and 8 as a hulking warrior (his number is marked on his left shoulder unlike the others, who bear their numbers on their backs).

I’ve had my eyes on this movie for a very long time. And a couple of days ago I finally was able to sit down and watch it. Twice!

The first thing that hits you about this movie is it’s breathtaking visuals and sounds that puts you in the right atmosphere from the very beginning. I’m not sure words can even describe it so I’ll just let the trailer and photos speak for themselves for now. (The review continues below the pictures.)

Looks refreshing doesn’t it

Besides the music, vibrant colors is a key factor for setting the mood for this movie along with the level of detail.

Even the rocket smoke has a shadow, nice!

Photorealistic visuals throughout the movie.

What is this movie about you say? It’s a 3 part movie going through various stages of life including love, dreams, hope, youth, overcoming obstacles, reality, growing up. That pretty much sums it up I think. All done in a very realistic and honest way, not some cheesy Hollywood stunt that we’ve seen far too many of. It also has a message I’m leaving for you to figure out for yourself :)

If to nitpick on something I have to say that the only thing causing me from not giving this movie a solid 6 out of 6 is that the character details doesn’t match the ones of the environment. I can totally understand it due to the animation process I surely do, however that would have been the little extra extra for me. One other small thing is the abrupt ending. It’s not a bad ending at all without revealing anything. It just happen so fast I didn’t see it coming. It was just… stop.

I have to get a hold of a Blu-ray copy of this movie some day and see the full potential it holds ;)

A highly recommended quick watch!

Warner Bros. 85th Anniversary Special Offer

I just couldn’t resist when Warner Bros. decided to celebrate their 85th anniversery by dumping the prices on quite a few of their DVD’s, both new as old titles. This gave me a chance of expanding my collection quite a bit as DVD’s in general cost far too much over here even though Blu-ray has started to push down the prices in general.

These are the titles I decided to get for now, and perhaps, maybe I’ll get myself a couple more later on. (Some that I’ve not seen already would have been nice). Thank you Warner Bros., and happy anniversary.

Super Mario Bros. flash back

Do you remember when you were a kid how fun it was to visit the next door kid who had a Nintendo 8-bit and Super Mario Bros.?! Or perhaps you even owned it yourself? Last year when I bought myself a Nintendo Wii I just had to get it for old times sake. Now even 23 years later I still haven’t managed to complete the game grrrrrr haha.

R.E.M. on stage now!

Right now R.E.M. is on stage here in my hometown, however I’m not at the concert… I had all the intentions on going, though I’m still at home with a really bad cold. On the bright side I can’t really complain. I’ve been to some really great concerts this summer like Metallica with Sword and Down as warm up bands, KISS, a double concert with Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stoneage plus a few more. Also I think my cold hit a peak a couple of days ago and is leaving my body. I’m feeling a bit better at least. Hope everything is back to normal over the weekend. Have a blast all of you being at tonights concert!
